AMN was established to develop and build relationships across Africa’s mining community, and give the world a preview of what is happening in mining in Africa.

AMN - COTE D’IVOIRE: Drilling underway at Kokoumbo

Predictive Discovery has started a diamond drilling campaign of up to 2,500 metres at its Kokoumbo Gold Project in Cote D’Ivoire targeting high-grade gold mineralisation. This follows completion of an induced polarisation (IP) survey over the licence area.

The Kokoumbo permit forms part of the Toro Gold Joint Venture and is in southern Côte d’Ivoire, 40km north of the operating Bonikro gold mine within the Oume-Fetekro greenstone belt.

Drill contractor, Energold, is on-site with a man-portable diamond drill rig with the program designed to test beneath and down-dip of a series of artisanal mine sites and extensive ESE trending IP anomalies.

The IP survey undertaken by Sagax Afrique was completed over the target area in July. It consisted of a 37 line km gradient array IP survey and 8km of dipole-dipole on five lines.

Predictive's managing director Paul Roberts said: “The company is very happy with the IP survey results from our Kokoumbo project.

"Several strong anomalies were detected and indicate the potential for high-grade gold mineralisation. The follow-up drill program is now underway and we look forward to presenting the results to market.

"West Africa is one of the most prospective gold regions in the world with the highly underexplored Birimian Gold Belt already home to numerous established mines.

"Through our strategy of 'Exploration – Partnership – Growth' we are maximising the value of our large West African ground portfolio,” he said.

The first drill holes will test the area of new artisanal workings. Most of the drill program will test the extensive strong IP anomalies.

The results of the IP survey indicated a strong ESE trending zone of chargeability anomalies partly coincident with highly anomalous soil geochemical values reported previously by JV partner, Toro Gold.

Nearby to the south are a series of new artisanal gold workings which are generating significant gold values for the artisanal miners and are also associated with more subtle IP anomalies with an indicated south-dipping source.

The Kokoumbo permit covers an area of historic artisanal and French colonial era mining in a highly prospective rock belt. Soil sampling has identified a series of impressive geochemical gold anomalies, many of which remain untested by drilling.

Other notable mines in the area include F&M’s Bonikro gold mine, Randgold’s Tongon Mine gold mine and Endeavour’s Agbaou and Ity gold mines.
